The Dog, The Stag And The Beast by button-bird The Dog, The Stag And The Beast by button-bird
This took me way longer than it should have -.- I thought it'd be a quick doodle, but then it turned out to eat up my whole morning and noon. Drawing characters for the first time is so hard! So many decision to make, but uuuuunifoooooorms miarharhar. :3

Apart from Sirius' messed up anatomy (which I of course didn't notice until it was too late), I like the outcome : )) I always liked how the nicest and quietest of the Marauders was the most dangerous at the same time.
No Pettigrew because I hate him and to me he doesn't belong to the Marauders, animagus or not. Fred and George do though, after they have died, and I imagine the five of them pranking the hell out of everyone in afterlife ^^ but that'll be a different drawing some time I guess.
Hope you like! Now on to some lunch and university work.

Gosh, seeing this makes me want a Marauders-centric picture book detailing their barmy adventures haha. This is brilliant, I'm completely smitten with your art style.

No wonder Peter felt no loyalty toward them, since they felt none toward him. At least that's the way it appears in so much fan art and fanfic. I'm sure it's not your intention of make people feel sorry for Peter, but that's what happens every time I see him left out because "he's not a real Marauder."

Of course if you don't like him you have every right to omit him, as did his three schoolmates, but that's no way to make a friend who'll be loyal in the face of torture and death.

Thanks for your comment : ) <3

There are times where I indeed do feel sorry for Peter. I guess there must have been something to him that was likeable and nice, because otherwise he would never have been accepted into their group, helped to become an animagus and even become the secret bearer for James and Lily. They must really have liked and trusted him, we just never really got so see that part of him... you are right, all I ever think about when thinking of him is his later, despicable existence as the death eater who betrayed James and Lily, and I just can't seem to forgive him for that.

I might try to make some art about the "past" Peter, the way he was when he was indeed a Marauder, and one who was worthy of not being mentioned last in the Marauder's map.

Though James and Sirius are confident and charming, and Remus is friendly and agreeable, I don't see any of the Marauders as likable and nice. The only time in canon we see all four together (Snape's Worst Memory), James and Sirius never say a single word to or about Peter that isn't a put-down. And Remus is thoroughly cowed, for good reason; any of them could destroy his life through sheer carelessness, as Sirius almost did by using him as a weapon against Severus, apparently without ever feeling regret.

The Marauders on the surface are best buddies, but to my eye the underlying power dynamic is ugly. I find that the most fascinating thing about them. To me the Perfect Boyhood Friends are boring, while their complex interaction of loyalty and bullying, supportiveness and threat, is what makes them worth reading (and writing) about.

All four Marauders have both good and bad in their natures. Peter was their in-house Snivellus, available to be laughed at whenever the real Sniv wasn't at hand. He remained as much a Marauder as any of them, right up to the moment the Marauders were destroyed by James's death. The taint of darkness always existed in the Marauders--in all of them, not just Peter--even in their happiest boyhood days.

My personal opinion, of course. It goes without saying that not everyone will agree, and I'm fine with that.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! (I LOVE discussing different views on and ideas about the HP universe, haha XD)

I think this might be a personality thing. While I prefer stories and characters without a strict "black or white" classification (which is why Snape and Lupin are amongst the most interesting characters for me, and why I was so heavily disappointed when no Slytherin student stayed for the battle of Hogwarts in den end), I am a person who wants to see the best in everyone, and tends to overlook the "darker" parts until there's no excuse anymore. I want to see the Marauders (including Peter) as real friends, even though I admit that Sirius and James did for sure bully Peter sometimes in some way, but I don't think it ever was as bad as with their Snivellus and more in a funny way that meant no real harm. But this is the beautiful thing about good stories, they create the soil for the reader's own wishes and imagination and don't say everything straight away, so everyone can think of the backstories in a way that is most appealing and interesting to them :)

Yes you should definitely look up Chris Riddel he is a children's illustrator, sort of Gothic style.

I am suprised that you are not aware of Neil Gaiman as his advert is currently featured on every page of deviant art available. (No, I am not secretly one of his advertising Gurus. Promise.)
