No post on sundays - an uncle Vernon tribute by button-bird No post on sundays - an uncle Vernon tribute by button-bird
Oh uncle Vernon, are you so absorbed in burning Harry's letters, that you don't notice how the owls even stuff your clothes with them?

This is a tribute to uncle Vernon's actor Richard Griffiths, who died on March 28th, 2013. Thank you for bringing uncle Vernon to life for us, Mr. Griffiths, and thank you for doing it so well. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends who will surely miss him dearly.

Aw thanks, I'm glad you like it :boogie:
I use a mechanical pencil to draw, since I don't have to re-sharpen it, and I have two different sets of watercolours: Schmincke, a rather expensive german brand, for when I'm working at home (the uncle Vernon tribute picture was coloured with these) with rather cheap "daVinci" brushes (nothing fancy, I think they are even meant for school); and a small set of Winsor&Newton Cotman watercolours, their cheap student line, with Pentel waterbrushes for when I'm travelling or visiting friends to draw with them (my Pottapourri comic was coloured with these). I like both sets a lot and can definitely recommend them, especially the Cotmans because they have really nice and soft colours for a really affordable price. The Harry Potter fanart pictures are made in a Daler Rowney A4 hardbound sketchbook, I found that the paper handles watercolour really well, even though it was not meant for them. But basically any sketchbook paper that's on the heaver side will do fine, lighter papers will curl when they get wet. I have fancy watercolour paper at home too, but I find that I always go back to my sketchbook paper.

It's nice to know :D Schmincke is very costly D: And it's hard to find in the UK but I found few shops which sell it

They are among the best watercolours currently available, so if you have already worked with watercolours before and appreciate high-quality supplies, you won't regret getting them. I'll refill my half pans with their tube colours once they're empty though, because this is cheaper in the long run, and they are easy to refill I've heard.

If you're a beginner with watercolours, I would recommend the Cotmans. They are very good, even though they are student grade they are better than some brands' artist grade colours, yet MUCH cheaper and there's even a chinese professional artist who is known for his AMAZING watercolour works who uses them, so they are in no way just something to play around with. And I personally prefer to have cheaper art supplies, because the costly ones tend to freeze me as I am afraid to "waste" them (I got my Schmincke set for a really good price at amazon, otherwise I wouldn't dare to paint with them I guess :D ). I want to be able to work freely with what I have, and my brushes and colours work just fine for me :)

Nice to know ^^ :D And I was going for the Cotmans, I don't want to waste a lot of money and waste the paints too D: and what type of mechanical pencil do you use?
Brand I mean

I used an "Aristo Geo-Pen" for a long time, but it's rather ugly, so I got a Faber Castell for myself a few days ago ^^ I prefer 0.5mm HB leads. Since I'm left-handed, I smudge pencil lines easily when drawing with B leads.

It was kind of sad, his death. You grew up hating him and he portrayed the character so beautifully, it is a rather difficult process to make an audience hate you.
He was part of my childhood, and everyone's childhood I believe and we will never ever forget him.
Thanks for this lovely artwork :)

This is a wonderful picture! So in character for Uncle Vernon to ignore the little post owl behind him! Yes, it was a very sad day when Richard Griffiths died. He was perfectly cast as Uncle Vernon. :rose:
